Josh McDaniels had a rocky tenure as Denver Broncos head coach from 2009-2010, going 11-17 before being fired with four games remaining in the 2010 season.

In McDaniels’ final year with the team, Denver’s director of video operations (who was hired by McDaniels in 2009) filmed the San Francisco 49ers’ walkthrough practice before the Broncos’ showdown with the Niners in London, England that season.

McDaniels said he didn’t know the staff member planned to film the practice but that didn’t stop the NFL from fining McDaniels and the team. The Broncos fired McDaniels one week later.

McDaniels then had a brief stint with the St. Louis Rams in 2011 before returning to the New England Patriots in 2012. In 2018, he had an agreement with the Indianapolis Colts to become their new head coach but then backed out of the agreement and remained in New England.

This offseason, McDaniels was hired by the Las Vegas Raiders as their new head coach. Denver will play the Raiders twice this season, once on the road and once at home (dates will be announced later this offseason).

McDaniels was fired by the Broncos on Dec. 6 in 2010. The exact date for his return to Denver is not yet known, but McDaniels will be back at Empower Field at Mile High about 12 years after the cheating scandal. It’s probably safe to assume he won’t receive a warm welcome.
